The Sonnets
For my Masters, I studied a history of Shakespeare on film before concentrating on the works of:
- Roman Polanski;
- Akira Kurosawa;
- Laurence Olivier;
- Franco Zeffirelli;
- Gregor Kozintsev;
- Kenneth Branagh;
- Orson Welles.
For my Doctoral Thesis I concentrated on the four major productions of Romeo and Juliet over the last one hundred years:
- George Cukor’s version in 1936, starring Norma Shearer and Leslie Howard
- Renato Castellani’s version in 1954, starring Laurence Harvey and an unknown Susan Shentall
- Franco Zeffirelli’s version in 1968, starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey
- Baz Luhrmann’s version in 1996, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes
- Carlo Carlei’s version in 2013, starring Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth
I have given talks at universities, schools, and cinemas on a number of Shakespeare plays and film adaptations. I have tutored numerous students at standard, advanced, undergraduate, and postgraduate level. All tutorials are on a 1:1 basis and are built around the student’s own timetable.
